Each year, twelve freshmen students at Tougaloo College are selected from a competitive pool of applicants and designated as JHSUTEC Scholars.
Benefits of the UTEC Scholars Program
•Scholars learn about public health and related disciplines through the JHSUTEC sponsored courses and related activities.
•Scholars are introduced to career opportunities in public health, biomedical research, and other health-related professions.
•Scholars conduct research under the mentorship of health professionals and scientists and present their research findings on the local and national levels.
•Scholars earn stipends.
•During the academic year, Freshmen Scholars earn $300 per month. Sophomore Scholars earn $350 per month. Junior and Senior Scholars earn up to $500 per month.
•During the summer, Scholars who have completed the freshmen year earn up to $3150. Scholars who have completed their sophomore and junior years earn up to $4500.
